Narrow aisle forklifts
Usually used within warehouse operations is the Narrow Aisle Forklift. These forklifts are important tools within the business because their extreme maneuverability and small size enable warehouses to maximize storing space. They could easily pass aisles as narrow as 1.8 meters wide, while standard lift trucks need at least 3.4 meters of aisle width.
The two kinds are "narrow aisle forklift" and the "very narrow aisle forklift". The first require 2.4 meters - 3 meters in aisle width, whilst the second can function in a 1.8 meters wide space.
The design of a narrow aisle forklift includes forks positioned at right angles to the body of the truck. The trucks do not have to face the shelves, but instead drive straight down the aisle picking up loads to the side. This design feature is the key to their suitability for limited spaces.
To make sure that the forklift is moving in a straight line down the aisle, some very narrow aisle forklifts comprise wire or optical systems. That way, the operator can concentrate more on the placement and the picking of loads.
The cushion tires that come with these types of lifts are made of solid rubber. The hard tires perform well on smooth, paved surfaces and concrete floors. Narrow aisle forklifts have electric motors which is best utilized within indoor environments. Propane-powered versions are available as well.
