On a lift truck, there is a variety of different mechanisms which raise and lower the lifts, such as: rack and pinion lifts, scissor lifts, telescoping lifts, screw lifts and articulated lifts. The scissor lift uses crisscrossed folding supports with a screw system that draws the members together. Rack and pinion lifts use a pinion, which is a small drive gear, to drive a straight-toothed rack to raise the cargo. The telescoping lift mechanism is made with many parts which retract and extend out of and into each other to achieve lifting action. Screw lifts use threads to raise the lift. Articulated lifts utilize a mechanism involving many parts which unfold or articulate. An articulated lift example is the "cherry picker."

Forklift Material Handling
In material handling processes, there are lots of reasons to keep up with innovations. Material handling machinery and the methods can be utilized to deal with more SKUs, increased geographical coverage, and the need to lower inventories. Machines which are well ahead of the technological curve could help productivity maximization and increase effectiveness.

Forklift Battery & Charging Technology
The decision to convert from conventional, internal combustion lift trucks to electric forklifts is a smart one as the latest line-ups of electric forklifts offer longer run-times and higher capacities than ever before. Battery and charger combinations are providing a lot more power for longer periods than older systems can achieve. Enhancements in both charger and battery technologies are not just making electric forklifts more beneficial but they are making it possible to have more environmentally friendly warehouse operations.

These new batteries are known as Lithium-Ion Batteries or Li-ion batteries. This technology is still somewhat new, however Li-ion batteries show incredible promise. They are not only smaller but can hold up to six times the charge of conventional lead acid batteries. Li-ion batteries have really low maintenance needs and are able to maximize opportunity charging through zero memory technology.
